The collection of scientific papers *Optoelectronics and Semiconductor Technology* is a specialist scientific and technical publication whose history dates back to 1966, when the collection *Semiconductor Technology and Microelectronics* was founded on the initiative of Academician Sergei Vasilyevich Svetchnikov. The creation of the publication was driven by an awareness of the vital importance of optoelectronics for scientific and technical progress and the need to bring together specialists to formulate its fundamental concepts, methods and applied areas. In the very first issue of the journal, S.V. Svechnikov published the article ‘Photoelectric Functional Converters as a Promising Direction in Semiconductor Electronics (Optoelectronics)’, which presented one of the first summaries of optoelectronics as a promising direction in semiconductor electronics.
In 1982, the journal was renamed ‘Optoelectronics and Semiconductor Technology’, reflecting the expansion of its scientific scope and the growing role of optoelectronics in the development of semiconductor science and technology. For many years, S.V. Svechnikov served as the publication’s long-standing editor-in-chief, shaping its scientific standards, thematic focus and prestige. Today, the journal ‘Optoelectronics and Semiconductor Technology’ continues these traditions, publishing the results of applied research in the fields of optoelectronics, semiconductor physics and technology, photonics, sensor technology, information and measurement technologies, and related high-tech areas.
