The Editorial Board of the scientific collected papers “Optoelectronics and Semiconductor Technology” adheres to the principles of publication ethics, academic integrity, and responsible scientific communication. Retraction, that is, the withdrawal of a published article, is applied in cases where, after publication, substantial violations, errors, or circumstances are identified that call into question the reliability, originality, or ethical acceptability of the published material.
Grounds for retraction may include: detection of plagiarism or self-plagiarism; fabrication or falsification of data; duplicate publication; submission of unreliable results; substantial errors affecting the main conclusions of the article; violation of copyright or third-party rights; improper attribution of authorship; undisclosed conflict of interest; violation of ethical requirements for conducting research; established unethical use of artificial intelligence or AI-assisted technologies; or other circumstances that contradict the journal’s publication ethics policy.
The issue of retraction may be initiated by the Editorial Board, the Editor-in-Chief, the authors of the article, reviewers, readers, scientific institutions, organizations, or other interested parties that have provided substantiated information about a possible violation. Reports concerning possible grounds for retraction are considered by the Editorial Board confidentially, objectively, and taking into account all available materials.
After receiving such a report, the Editorial Board conducts a preliminary assessment, analyzes the nature and scope of the possible violation, requests explanations from the authors where necessary, asks for primary data, supplementary materials, or documents, and may involve independent experts or members of the Editorial Board who have no conflict of interest. The authors have the right to provide reasoned explanations regarding the identified circumstances.
The decision on retraction is made by the Editorial Board on the basis of the results of the assessment, the authors’ explanations, expert conclusions, and the standards of publication ethics. If the identified deficiencies do not affect the main scientific conclusions of the article, the Editorial Board may decide to publish a correction, clarification, or editorial notice without withdrawing the article. If the violations or errors are substantial and call into question the reliability or ethical acceptability of the publication, the article shall be retracted.
If a decision on retraction is made, a corresponding notice is published on the journal’s website, indicating the title of the article, the authors, the bibliographic details of the publication, the date of the decision, and the reason for withdrawal. The retraction notice must be accessible, transparent, and linked to the electronic version of the retracted article.
A retracted article is not completely removed from the journal archive, except in cases where its continued availability may violate legislation, third-party rights, confidentiality, or create other substantial risks. The electronic version of such an article is marked as retracted, with the relevant status indicated and a link provided to the retraction notice.
Retraction is not a mechanism for punishing authors, but is aimed at correcting the scientific record, informing readers, and preventing the dissemination of unreliable or ethically unacceptable results. The Editorial Board ensures impartial consideration of each case and adheres to the principles of transparency, proportionality, and responsibility when making decisions on the withdrawal of publications.
